Industries & Applications: Crane Systems
TRAMAG Transformers in use for Electrical Control and Safety in Crane Systems
A significant part of the worldwide transport of goods takes place in ISO-standardized containers. Over 5,400 container ships transport around 160 million TEU (TEU is the unit of measurement for the equivalent of a 20-foot container) across the world’s oceans every year. On their way from shipper to consignee, these containers have to be loaded, handled and unloaded. Without a massive deployment and round-the-clock operation of crane technology in the world’s seaports, such a logistics performance would be unthinkable.
TRAMAG control transformers are part of the electrical switchgear for the reliable control of a harbour crane, so that permanent and, above all, safe crane operation is guaranteed for fast and trouble-free container handling.
Control transformers enable machines and systems to be adapted to different mains voltages and increase the functional safety of electrical control systems by being able to be reconnectable in the event of constant overvoltage and undervoltage in the mains due to the standard additional taps of the primary voltages. In the event of a fault, they also dampen the level of the short-circuit current and make it possible to operate auxiliary circuits without earthing. For this reason, control transformers are mandatory in many electrical systems with several electromagnetic coils, circuits and devices according to the relevant technical standard.
TRAMAG: We are the Enablers
Electrically safe switching of the contactors used in the drives train of the crane operation is also required, above all, for the reliable and immediately triggering brake function. The galvanically isolated coils and the overload capability of the TRAMAG control transformer also ensure electrical protection when switching the contactors used.
For years, customers all over the world have trusted in our TRAMAG solution expertise in transformers, chokes and filters, in reliable use for safe control and stable operation of crane systems for global goods and cargo handling.
