Industry Focus: Maritime Applications

Safe, seaworthy Onboard Power Supply with TRAMAG Premagnetizing Transformers

For maritime shipping, a reliable power supply for on-board networks and drives for man and machine is indispensable for safe navigation on the world’s oceans. Ship generators produce the necessary energy, which is fed into the on-board network via medium-voltage (MV) transformers.

In order to avoid an overload of generator and MV transformer during switch-on processes, the special TRAMAG Premagnetizing Transformer is connected in series with the MV transformer on the secondary side in order to charge it. This premagnetization process prevents an uncontrolled increase of the inrush current, which would damage the generator and MV transformer and thus block the power supply.

TRAMAG: We are the Enablers

For years, customers all over the world have trusted in our solution competence for transformers, chokes and filters for their ship technology applications, in reliable use on all seas and waters for the power supply of their on-board and lighting networks as well as their control and drive technology.

On request, we can also have our transformers and chokes certified by maritime classification societies such as DNV-GL or Bureau Veritas.

On the one hand in technical development and on the other hand in the organization of workplaces in production. Employees who keep their workstations tidy maintain an overview, have access to the right tools at all times and can work on the product efficiently and with quality assurance.

“Quality is when the Customer comes back and not the Product”

The most technically innovative or economically attractive product in an application is worth nothing if the quality is not right. Not only would the failure of the product itself have to be lamented, but possibly also further damage to the entire application.
